Jacq On .. Hebrews

You may have gathered by now that I enjoy bible study! I spent the whole of last winter on the book of ‘ Revelation’. Recently I have been reminded through my daily reading notes of how much I enjoyed Hebrews when taking the discipleship course many years ago.

The Epistle to the Hebrews is in the New Testament and is traditionally attributed to Paul the apostle. Scholars think the authorship and the audience are in question. It talks about Jesus being the Son of God that HE has died for our sins and is now seated at the right hand of God. The message I like best is that Jesus is not only our High Priest, but was also the sacrifice. This alleviates the need for animal sacrifice, including lambs, as in the Old Testament. There is a lot of talk about high priests and the forgiveness of sins.

Hebrews not only sends the message to Jews, but also to the Jewish Christian converts during the time of Nero’s persecution. The message is still amazing today. It links Old Testament heroes of faith with New Testament principles of faith. It is a reassurance of my faith and fulfilled promises in Jesus our Saviour. It helps me realise why we see a Lamb in the throne room in Revelation. Jesus is and was the Lamb of God.  Christ (Jesus) is the founder and perfector of our faith. Hebrew 11;1-2 is a favourite of my husband’s ‘Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see’.
